Wait, who? Uh, where am I. Oh right. I have a blog. Oh wait, I remember saying something about updating it more. That was more than a year ago? Surely you jest.

So I’m: Still playing D&D, still not working enough, still making outlandish claims about updating my blog. Also going back to school, full-time. I either need an actual degree or I just need so much schooling that schools will need to hire me because I am just so fucking schooled. The Platt degree seems to be worth nothing, it’s been worthless in helping me get a job. Work is so fucking slow that people must think I’m completely useless (I’m not, I swear I’m not). Oh also, my asthma came back, in a bad way. Breathing is way more fun than you might think. Oh also #2, panic attacks now. And they tend to trigger asthma attacks. So, imagine this, you suddenly start freaking out and then you can’t breathe. It sucks, It’s like being tortured by your own body. Ugh

So as I mentioned I’m back in school, full-time. Going to learn programming and probably transfer to SDSU and continue with computer science. I think if I was able to follow all the way to the end I’d like to wind up at UCSD playing around with their supercomputer. It’s so hard being back in school, I know that that particular stress is partially what has brought on the panic attacks and probably had a hand in the asthma. Although I have been around smokers for many years, so that probably hasn’t helped. Anyways, these fucking kids. Nothing more to that, I just hate these fucking kids. I wish I was taking more computer classes but I need to finish this last class to get into the C++ and Java classes. Also more maths. Always more maths.

Fairly quiet on the music front. I saw Boris at the Casbah in July. That was fucking awesome. Best show I’ve ever seen.

My D&D group has started in on a Dark Sun campaign. Our DM has gone full out and claims to have everything written up until 7th level, which would be a good few months of play. He also dared us to knock the game off-track. Bad idea. He forgets that we don’t usually specifically attempt to knock a game off-track, we just do it. It’s like a force of nature. You can take steps to keep your house from being knocked down by weather, cutting back trees, storm windows, etc. But then one day something big rolls through and there’s a train bisecting your house.

Went to Comic Con this year, bought a returned pass a few weeks beforehand which was awesome. Had a good time overall, got to meet Doc Hammer and Jackson Publick of Venture Bros. fame. They even signed my Monarch action figure and I got a picture with Doc Hammer. Nice guy, I know I probably smelled like a wookie at that point in the day.

Here’s a picture of Carl posing with a TF2 Scout. Later we saw a Sniper get backstabbed by a spy. You don’t get to see video games come to life all that often.

Yeah, okay, it’s been a little while

Neglect, thy name is prophet.erraticworkshops.com

I’m back again, I’ve been so so busy. I originally stopped because the beginning of the year was just one big kick in the groin. First my Grandfather died, which was a huge blow. I’d been spending a lot of time with him and it was really hard. Then I got the flu and hurt my ankle again.

After that my excuse is that I was busy. I’ve been running this other D&D so I’ve been writing for that as well as just writing in general. I think I’m getting better at it. If only I had something to write about, maybe I could actually write a novel.

So yeah, I’m back again. Fear.

I took his images last week while I was changing out my video card. Amazing images that could only be born from my love of photography and light. Notice the subtle hues invoked and the way the light bounces off the damaged insides of my computer as if we are excavating… I dunno where I was going with that. The images are hilarious in that they look like they were taken by an 80 year old with parkinsons.

To answer your question about that gallery, yes, that is a brand new Bamboo Wacom Tablet (small) being guarded by a tiny AT-AT and Boba Fett. It’s taking some getting used to. I only use it for work so I’m still getting used to it. My main problem with it is that double click and sometimes just clicking in general feels very awkward. The way windows and different programs deal with it is also interesting. Most of the time you can hold down a little button on the pen and “grab” the screen to scroll around. Most of the time it works, but a couple times now when I was expecting it to work I wound up dragging a random folder into another random folder and not knowing what went where. Also it’s shortcuts don’t work so well, you’re supposed to be able to put the pen down and make a left swipe to go back, but if the area isn’t clear or you run into text or a graphic or something it just highlights a huge area.

I’ve decided that I just need to write a weekly post where I only talk about music since that’s what a large portion of what I do post about is on. I also never feel like I get enough out about it either. So I’ll try to do it this weekend or next week. No more music in regular posts unless it’s about a concert or something.

Got another D&D group together, this one is full of people I used to game with in high school. Unfortunately I am running it since our old DM “doesn’t know the new system” or something logical like that. I think it’s going alright, I’m starting to fall into a rhythm and I’m not so nervous anymore. Still trying to find one more person to play, we are kind of short handed and I don’t like running an NPC on top of everything else that I’m looking after.

Getting into PHP again. I was watching a video tutorial for a while, but I got hung up on something and I couldn’t get my code to work the way it was supposed to. With no one to ask about the problem I let it go. Now I’ve got a book so I can follow it closely without feeling rushed because I’m typing on my tiny laptop keyboard that I still haven’t gotten used to. I’ve got an idea for a first project for myself, something that I think would be handy not only for myself to have when I am running a D&D game but other people as well.

Enough rambling, out.

Crap, I let this slip. Badly.

I’m back though, for now. I’m sure this’ll slip again but hopefully not for a while. My main issue is that I can’t figure out what the hell to do with this blog. I think I mentioned this problem before, and I think I just need continue to use this as I have been: Partial work, partial bullshit. Here goes.

2008 is gone, good riddance. I wish there was a grave I could desecrate, some kind of memorial I could burn. Nothing, though I toasted it’s demise with Trois Pistole and La Fin Du Monde. A fitting end at least, so long jerk.

Been playing WoW again. The designers at Blizzard are earning every penny they make, they’ve managed to take a pretty well trod game and make it interesting again. There are the old classic quests, go here kill this, go there kill these until you get x of this. A lot of it just has to do with the story (gasp!) that they introduce through the entire new continent. There are new quests types and other interesting things to do, the Rep grind isn’t nearly as stupidly retarded as it was previously. The instances are well thought out and heroics are genuinely tough now.

The thing that really gets me is the art style though, it’s friggin beautiful. There are areas that are genuinely gorgeous, the tundras are frostbitten masterpieces, and there is an area that could be taken straight out of northern California. It’s all a huge step away from all the crystal and glowly crap that dominated the last expansion. The gear is very much a Norse aesthtetic, which might not sound like it should look so great, but it all comes together so well.

I’ve been on another hunt for weird black metal. The band I’m listening to a lot right now is a Canadian band (don’t laugh) named Gris. It’s in the same kind of vein as the French scene, which is developing some of the best stuff right now in my opinion. It’s a little more midpaced then a lot of other black metal, and it’s friggin bleak and buzzing and cold swept. Yet, it retains an amazing amount of melody and feeling. This isn’t the typical kind of corpse painted band, which is one thing I think is wrong with black metal in recent times. Not necessarily the corpse paint but just that all these bands get caught up in their own image and people constantly striving for the most brutal face scorching groups. But most of these bands are empty. They don’t really have anything to offer and it’s like they are working from a template. I could write even more about this but I’ll leave that for a later date.

GRIS – Il Etait Une Foret

Other things I’ve been listening to are the new Darkspace album, Darkspace III (awesome spacey black metal) and a Peste Noire album, can’t remember the name (awesome French black metal). As you can see it’s been a very black beginning to the new year.

A package just arrived from newegg.com, my new video card and Wacom tablet. I’m going to go rip that shit open now.

The LHC fired up today, or last night or something. I’m still blogging, so I guess we’re safe… for now. I love physics, if I weren’t so horrible with maths I might’ve considered it as a career.
